SUMNER CANAL. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 14. The Hon. E. Mitchelson and Messrs. W. Ferguson and J. E. Watson, the special commission appointed by the harbour board to report on the commercial aspects of the Sumner Canal proposal, met at Christchurch to-day, Mr. Mitchelson was appointed chairman. The commissioner will probably sit for a week.

FIRE AT THE GASWORKS. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 14. The Rangiora Gasworks had a narrowescape this morning from being destroyed by fire, but fortunately the outbreak was confined to a shed attached to the retort house.
