LEPPERTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) /Jnly 14. The unfortunate porter M'Kenzie, who met his death at Hawera, waa well known here„having been stationed at the junction for some time. He was a most courteous and obliging official. The annual ball came off last evening, and was a most brilliant function, a Targe crowd being present from all parts of the district. The committee again deserves much praise for the thoroughness of its work. Tho decorations were profuse, tho supper magnificent; and the music (comprising piano, violin, cornet, and piccolo, the leadership of Mr. H. Tunbridge) Al. Alessrs. J. Robinson, F. Crowe, and N. Sampson ably acted as M.O.’s. Rodwater seems to Be rather prevalent this season. I know two farmers whoso cows have the trouble, one having ten cows affected and another five. Tho turnips seem to be the cause. However, as Mr. Reakes says, it is a feed malady. A change to a little good hay will usually put matters right. Having journeyed from hero by the special train to -hear the famous Sheffield Choir at Palmerston North, I must say my anticipations were much exceeded. The concert made one long .for more. X heartily corroborate the very excellent account of the choir by your Afr. R.N.R., which appeared in the Herald. Dr. Valintine has recently-lost n good horse, from inflammation, I bclioire. Mr. D. B. M‘Roo also had to destroy a horse, its leg having been broken by a kick from another horse. ; As tho animal' had only recently been purohasqd the loss was more annoying.
