The wool sales were animated and all sorts sold at the highest prices of the series Tho Bank of New Zealand has received the following cable from our Lou don office: “The market is strong for coarse crossbreds and medium crossbreds, all kinds of lamb wool and halfbred. Current prices for North Island farmers’ lots: Coarse crossbreds. 3640’s quality, average condition, 9d to 9Jd per lb.; medium crossbreds, 44-46’s, average condition, 93d to lOjd; fine crossbreds, 50’s, average condition, 12Jd to 14d. WOOL. SKINS AND HIDES. Messrs. Young, Hobbs and Co. report:—On Tuesday. 15th {list., we held our four-weekly sale of above produce before the usual attendance of buyers. The catalogue comprised 22 bales 41 bags wool, 411 sheepskins, 176 hides, 129 calfskins, 2 casks 8 tins tallow, and the usual assortment of horsehair, cowtails, etc. Wool.—ln sympathy with outside markets, values advanced up to id per lb., and competition was keen throughout. Sheepskins.—The rise, in the wool market naturally improved the sale of skins, and good sound lines advanced up to Id per lb. Bidding for both dry and salted pelts and woolly lamb skins was very animated. Hides.—Values about on a par with those ruling last month. We quote: Wool.—ln bales: Fleece 6d, 6Jd, 6jd, 6Jd, 7d; fleece and lambs’ 6d to 7d; lambs, 6jd, 6Jd, 7d; hoggets, 63d; crutchings, etc., 4d; pieces, 2jd. Cowtails.—Small quantity; Is 6d per cloz. MESSRS. L. A. NOLAN AND CO. REPORT. On 15th inst. wo hold our monthly sale of the above. Flides sold at about last month’s rates taken right through, with exception of heavy cow showing substance which showed a sharp advance. Heavy ox showing substance were again keenly competed for. Sheepskins, especially salted lines, sold at an advance on last month quite a fd a lb. for equal qualities compared with last month. Wool advanced quite a fd per lb. for good clean lots, particularly in lambs. Damaged, cotted and seedy sold at late rates. Tallow showed a decline of about 15s per ton. We quote:—Hides.—Butchers, cow, heavy showing substance 63d to 7d: heavy ordinary, 6|d to 6fd; wet and poor conditioned, )d to fd less.
