PATEA RAGING CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. Tho annual mooting of the Baton Pacing Club was held in tho Borough Council Chambers on Friday evening. There was a fair attendance, and Air. Geo. Williams was voted to llio chair. REPORT AND BALANCE SHEET. Tho committee! reported that tho course proper and training track had received every attention during the year, and both were in .uood order. Financially, the result of the last meeting was highly satisfactory. The balance sheet showed the following Assets, buildings and plant, £ood ;; fencing, G‘JF); cash account, .€277 lbs lid: sundry drs., ,€h2 Ids; total, I*ll3o 8s lid; liabilities, nil. Profit and Less. —Expenses of last meeting, U 704 Es Ad; course improvements, €FS 0s 3d; rent, salaries, depreciation and sundries, €172 hs <d '(dual. *Js 3d. 'Hie cash balance ot the club is therefore only Cl 3 less than last year, in spite of the fact that iV> was spout during the year in effecting improvements to the course.

The 'Chairman, in moving the adoption of tlic report and balance sheet, said that Mr. R. H. Nolan, of liawera, one of the country club's representatives at the Racing: Conference, had paid a visit to Palea. and was taking a great interest in the cluh. A.s it was likely that a change would be made in connection with the Gaining Act, they did not know what position the club would he placed in. But, judging from remarks made by Air. Nolan, the chib would stand ns good a chance of remaining in existence ns oibers. He had shown Air. Nolan over the course, and he was perfectly satisfied with it in every respect. No doubt there would he a conference, and he (the .speaker 1 * thought it would he well if some senior monitor of the club attended, to tip.iit for the Palea Club, as ether clubs would undf ■ btedly do. Personally lie thought that the Patoa Club compared very favourably with any of the clubs between Wanganui und New Plymouth, and il. should therefore have a very good chance of remaining extant. Air. A. Christenson said they could not do other than be satisfied with the imalices of the cluh, as disclosed in the balance sheet, and the cluh hac every reason to be proud of last year’s m«s‘fug. Considering the nn.s'lFfactory nature of tin- gaming Egi-dalion, lie recommended tin- committee to art carefully as regards improvements to the course, grounds, ete., until the exact position w.i.n known. lie made a further recommendatimt to tin* incoming committee, that this year the band should be allowed luncheon free, in addition to their fee. The motion, on being put to the meeting, was earned unanimously. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of office hearers wm. then proceeded with. The following were elected: President, Mr. A. IVarce ; vice-presidents, Messrs. Jas. Ralervui and l dim. an ; judge. Air. Gen. Williams: treasurer. Air. G. W. Booth; clerk of scales. Air. Jas. Paterson ; committee*, last Year's members wa re reelected. viz..* Messrs. Geo. Williams. Jas. PaGrson, J. R. Paterson, S. AFRae, T. Jones, T. Campbell, A. IVarce, C. R, Hoiievfield and J. AFCariy: stewards, the committee; hon, surgeon. Dr. Simmons; auditor, Mr. J. K. Alitehill. NEXT RACE MEETING. It was decided to hold tho meeting on Easier Monday. IMFROVEAIENTS TO THE COURSE. Before the meeting adjourned* Air. Williams slated that since last meeting the sandy patches on the course, which had been complained of al ihe last meeting, had been re-turfed, and he was sun* owners would not have any further cense for emnplainl, A vote of thanks to the chair closed the meeting. The committee met immediately thereafter. and Mr. George William ( was reelected chairman fur the ensuing year.
