TARANAKI’S EARLY HISTORY. (From tho Taranaki Herald of 1861.) Friday, January 4.—Tho Tasmanian Maid arrived from AVaitara this morning for provisions. No news from tho camp. Firing has been heard at intervals during the day. H.M.S. Cordelia in sight towards evening. Tho following notice was posted during tho day: NOTICE. The Colonel commanding tho Garrison desires it to be distinctly understood that no person is to proceed beyond the outposts of Now Plymouth without his special permission. Bv order.
