TARANAKI SIDE-TRACKED.
(To the Editor.) Sir, I have examined Itiur Illustrated Christmas rtuinncrs vvmcli are published in various pans oi the Dominion, mostly lor the purpose oi doing Beni to England and -iiEualia, and i believe that there is not a single view ot the 'Taranaki provincial District in any one ot them. It is true the trains and steamers to Now Plymouth are very inconvenient, blit unless a protest is made the tourist tlailio, small as it now is, will soon disappear altogether. 1 do nob like boycotting, but it is obvious that it the dillorent papers want to soil their numbers largely in New Plymouth, there is a practical way ot showing that tin's district should not bo ignored in the luture. Does any one nelievo that tins state oi tilings could have happened if there had been a comfortable hotel on the slopes of Mount Egmout well advertised i At one time the Taranaki Scenery Preservation Society used to spend a little money in advertising the attractions of this district outside, and I think it would bo well to revert to the practice, and that our business men might all help.—l am, etc., CLEMENT W. GOVETT.
