PLUNKET SHIELD MATCH. AUCKLAND v. OTAGO. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Feb. 11. The interprovincial cricket match for the Plunket Shield between Auckland and Otago began at 11 a.m. in fine weather and on a perfect wicket. Auckland won the toss, and batted first. Tho score at tho end of an hour’s play was 52 runs for no wickets; Horsepool (in) 32, Hcnms (in) 18. Wilson captained Otago, and BrookeSmith the Auckland team. Hemus and Horspool opened Auckland’s innings to tho howling of Macartney and Downs. Runs came freely, and 20 was recorded at the end of half an hour’s play. At 30 Fisher replaced Downs, who had 17 scored off his bowling. When Horspool had scored 22 he had a narrow escape off Fisher, Rutherford failing to hold a hot chance in the slips. Horspool played Macartney with confidence. He hit him away to the boundary twice in succession and then scored a three, bringing 50 up, 29 of which wore off Macartney. The United Service A team to play Figment Village on the Tukapa Ground to-morrow afternoon, at 2.30 o’clock sharp, will consist of: —-AA o'od, Dinnis, Lash, Shirluv, Bocock, Mackay, Monk, Stichbury, New id I. and Crone.
