MINING.
The manager of tho Chnmpion Minos, Ltd., reported as follows under date September 18:— Rising and htoping on :he Champion reef is going on. A width jf Bft. is being taken out. It is composed of ribs of quartz, with mullock between. There soome to be more quartz striking into the west wall, and % croswut will be put into this wall to uncertain the full width of the reef. Fwo men have been cleaning out the creek level, and afterwards the manager will endeavour to clean out the rise up to the outcrop workings, to prove liow much is left in where good assays irere got. The dirt being sent to the mill is of fair grade , giving absay values ranging from 7s to £9. The engine and mill will be cleaned up and thoroughly overhauled next week, r.o as to start crushing as soon as possible.
