LINERS IN GALES.
Melbourne exchanges state that the Tyser steamer Marere, from London, and the Tomoana, from New York, both met with very heavy weather in the Southern Ocean when in the vicinity of Cro&et Islands. 'The decks of the Marere were swept with tremendous seas, and, on one occasion the engineroom was flooded. Severe north-east gales, accompanied by nail and snow, retarded her progress most of the way. Considerable damage was done to the fittings and the porMorward boat deck was carried away. The Tomoana experienced much the same weather, but tcot over the voyage, without damage. She passed through blinding, squalls of enow and hail, and, when in latitude 44deg. 41min. east, she sighted a pin-nacle-shaped iceberg over- 100 feet in neight.
The Rarawa brought 150 tons of cargo from Onehunga this morning, ii eluding 1300 feet of timber, 69 tons of cement, 8 tons of manure, o tons of Hour, 16 tons of sugar,. and 70 rases of fruit.
