By Electrio Telegraph.— Copyright MELBOURNE, August 25. The jury awarded the Hon. George Swinburne £3250 damages in bis action for libel against the Age. Mr. Justice Hodges, in gumming up, said if public men of high standing could, whether there was a foundation for attacks or not, bfe spoken of by a newspaper as plaintiff had been, public life would become unbearable, and out must fo everyone who felt any self-respect. t must be left to those of no character and no self-respect. At the same time, i* was equ illy important that the press should have free scope for criticism.
