AGRICULTURAL INSTRUCTION.
Messrs. Ballantyne and Whetter, inspectors, reported with reference to the memorandum from the Education Board re agricultural instruction in district high schools that they were of opinion that the objections raised by the inspectors for the Otago Education Board with regard to the provision made by the department for instruction in agriculture at the district high schools do not applp to this district. They recognised, however, that in some dis-
tricts where there are district high school* with an attendance so small as not to admit of two courses being carried on side by side a percentage ot the children will be debarred from qualitying for a university career shoufd only one course, an agricultural one, be instituted. At the Stratford school the only district high school in this education district, two courses of instruction have been mappfed out, one tor those pupils desirous of presenting themselves for the matriculation or junior university examination, or in other words for those who wish to qualify tor a university career, and the other tor those intending to follow agricultural pursuits or to enter the j public service by passing the civil ser-
\ icts junior examination
The report was adopted, and it was decided that a copy bo forwarded to the Ota go Education Board.
