HANDSOME DONATIONS.

CHRISTCHURCH, July 2(5

Two veiy handsome donations to the unemployed relief fund were received by the Mayor this morning — one of •»»00 from the Christchurch Meat Co., and the other of £.50 from Messrs. Bowron Bros. The officer in charge of the local bureau of the Labour Department states that there has been a decided decrease in tho number of applicants for work as compared with the past few weeks. At present the number applying for jobs is about equal to the number usually dealt with at this time of the year. He expressed the opinion that the continued fine weather would do much to absorb the unemployed, many of them having work they could go to if the weather Were such as would permit of the work being done. It is probable that additional work for the unemployed will be found at Linwood cemetery, where a large amount of work vet remains to be done.
