BILLIARDS.
AN EXHIBITION GAME.
There was a largo attendance at the New Plymouth Club Rooms last evening, wlion Mr. J. W. Read, champion cueist of the dominion, gave an exhibition game of billiards, under engagement to the club. The champion played a local amateur, to whom ho conceded 400 in a game of 750 up. At tlio end of an hour and a half's play Read ran out when his opponent's score stood at G23. He paid 31 visits to the table, and played good, all-round billiards, giving a demonstration of a \ariety of strokes in preference- to set 'strokes, as it was an exhibition game. Occasionally, however, ho "got going" well on tho red ball, manoeuvring it with delightful case. His strokes were beautilully clean, and many of great delicacy. His best breaks were 120, 10<), 90, and 88. At the end of tho game Head gavo an exposition of trick and i ancy shots.
