ELTHAM, July 27. At a meeting of the directors* of the New Zealand Axemen's Association last night the programme was drawn up for the next carnival to be held on December 27 and 28. The total prize money is £356, being an increase of t'2o on last year. The prize money in the Axemen's Cup remains the same as laht year— £l4o. The amount for the underhand chop is again £50. The cash lor the world's championship chop ot a two-foot standing block is increased to £30. The two-mile bicycle race will be worth £20, and the fivemile £10. All the other prizes are the same as last year. No second prize will be allowed in the chopping or double-handed sawing events. Tho directors are procuring a sample of red beech from Ohakune, and if it proves satisfactory all the contests will be decided in that timber intitead of white pine as formerly. The association has a credit balance ot over £300 in hand.
