LINCOLN ROAD.
(From a Correspondent.) June 10. — A concert and dance was held in the Schoolroom on Friday, Juno 4, and was a marked success both financially and socially. Tlie function was held in aid of the school funds generally. Tlie following ladies and gentlemen contributed items: Overture, Mrs. Glassford ; song. Mr. G. Henwood ; song. Miss M. Griffiths; song, Mr. Cumberworth, sen.; pianoforte duet, Misses N. Yeates and J. Bennett ; recitation, Mr. Brown ; song, Miss Henwood; song (comic), Mr. L. Henwood (encore) ; glee by a company ; song, Mr. Cumberworth, jun. : song, Mrs. Glassford: song, Mr. Brown; vocal duet, Mrs. Hoby and Miss Turnbull ; song, J. W. Henwood (encored) ; vocal duet, Misses TurnbulJ and Griffiths; song, Mr. L. Henwood; song Miss Henwood. At the close of tho concert, Mr. and G. Henwood, who are leaving the neighbourhood, were presented with a handsome silver teapot by their fellowsettlers. The presentation was made by Mr. O. M. Boldt, who, in a few wellchosen words, expressed tho high esteem in which tho recipients wore held by tlie settlers. Mr. and Mrs. Henwood suitably responded, and a few words were also spoken by Mr. J. W. Henwood, v\hosc name was coupled with that of his son in the presentation address. Mr. A. Nisbet, chairman of the local school committee, took advantage of the occasion to extend on behalf of the settlers a very hearty welcome to the nowly-appointod teacher, Mr. Cumberworth, who was present amongst them. Mrs. Benjamin, of your town, who has been relieving here for the last month, was also present. During her I stay hero sho became a fast favourite with both children and the settlers with whom sho came in contact. The Edu- ' cntion Board is fortunate in having such capable persons in its service. A hearty vote of thanks was then given to tho ladies for thrir excellent and successful work in catering for theoccasion ; to the ladios and gentlemen who assisted in making the concert a suroess. and also to Mr. A Nisbet, who fulfilled tho oftire of chairman in a very capabln manner. The hall was then quickly cleared for dancing, which was kept up with vigour until a few hours before daylight. Miss Hepwood supplied excellent mifio fnr tho occasion, thereby ensuring the fullest enjoyment by all.
