MYSTERIOUS STABBING AFFAIR.

MR. WILLIS TO BE KEPT QUIET.

[Willis, with the late W. P. Crick,' and others, was concerned in what was known as the New South Wales land scandals, which occupied .much attention a couple of years ago. Under the law of the State, owners were compelled to occupy their land, but the practice of dummying seemed to have been prevalent. Crick was formerly Minister for Lands, and he was involved with Willis in the scandal. Willis fled to Natal, and an attempt to secure his extradition failed, but he returned later. Eventually he and (Others were charged with conspiracy to evade the law, but Willis successfully defended himself.]
