BOROUGH OVERSEER
Tho Works Committee submitted a supplementary ' report recommending the Council to select a borough overseer from the following who had been chosen by the committee out of the large munbkr of applicants:— W. J. Austin. Blenheim*;' A. D. Bliek, Wellington; W. R. Gall, Auckland. Councillor Morey drew attention to the fact that there were only two local applicants for the position out of a total of fifty odd received. He took this as a very healthy sign that there was plenty of work in the district. Councillor. Cattley said as this was the last meeting of the present Council and as' there was likolv to be many changes in the personnel of the next Council, he thonghl the matter should be left over until then. The Mayor said it was thought the present Council had a full knowledge of the position aud would be best qualified therefore to make the appoint""on going to a ballot, Mr W- R. Gall was appointed ,to the position. The snecessf ul applicant is a recent arrival in the Dominion from Scotland. Jie has had a wide and varied experience of road work generally and comes with high testimonials. :
