The Channel Squadron gave an enthusiastic farewell to Lord Charles Beresford.

Lord | Beresford refused to be interviewed, stating, "It is my business to obty orders.'' Lord Charles Beresford is now G2 years of age. He is the second son of tho fourth Marquis of Waterford, and was selected, while still only a naval lieutenant, to accompany the King on his trip to India. He commanded the Condor at the bombardment of Alexandria, where his gallantry brought him the signalled: "Well done, Condor!' 5 and mention in despatches. He served on Lord AVolseley's staff in the Nile expedition in 1884, commanded the river gunbont Sofia, and, for saving the desert column, received the thanks of Parliament. He became a Lord Commissioner of the Admiralty in 1886, but resigned in 1888 on a question of the strength of the fleet. His relations with his colleagues in the Channel Fleet gave rise to a heated newspaper controversy in 1008. The battleships, which will now be formed into a second division of Sir William May's Fleet, are the King Edward VIT., Africa, Britannia, Commonwealth, Dominion, Hibernia, Hindustan, ami New Zealand. These .ill previously belonged to the Channel Fleet, together with the Irresistible, London, Swiftsure, Triumph, and Venerable. Sir Archibald Berkeley Milne was second in command of the Channel Fleet under Lord Charles Beresford, flying his flag in the Hibernia. He was appointed to that command 021 June 12, 1908.]
