WHANGAMOMONA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

The Hon. A. W. • Hogg's visit has done us a considerable amount of good, he having authorised thi metalling with burnt papa, of the Tahora saddle. This is one of the worst pieces on the Ohura Road. The metal will be a boon to settlers, and will also bo much appreciated by travellers from the King Country .driving stock through. A consignment of petroleum has arrived to oiFone of the. worst cuttings as an experiment. I hear thi{j can be done in America for ss,per, per chain. 11 If this is correct, and the oiled road will stand the traffic, it will solve the metal''question. t hear the Minister for Public Works told a deputation at Te £uiti that he intended spending all the vpte lor the Ongarue-Stratford .railway ,on the south, or this end.' If this is so, we must have the railway here, in two years' time, # and there h nothing to stop the train running from Stratford to Mangaroa in fdur years, or about .the time th© New Plymouth harbour improvements, are completed. Then Taranaki will get the trade that should have come this way from the first. Your Sttatford correspondent, in his notes of the 6th inst., in -censuring the Banquet Committee for their action in not mvting Mr Hine to th© Ministerial banquet held here on th© 2nd inst., fell into th© ,sanie error as some of the correspondents in th© press. He evidently quite forgot that tho banquet was & party one. That being so, it would only have caused unpleasantness to have invited Mr Hitfe. Th© settlers who have burned; their bush are all busy sowing thoir grass seed.

Miss E. Abbott, Miss Jones, and Mr T, Ryan have left for Stratford with a team of. horses to cdmpete at St. Patrick's Day sports in Stratford. I hear Mr Fayer has sold his Kohuratahi property to Hight Bros., who own the land adjoining. Mr. W. Greenwood has also sold his property on the Mangaroa Road. There is some talk .of Messrs Cameron and Brooking not finishing their metal contract, there only being a little over two miles completed. I sincerely hope this is. not so, because the gap left will be almost impassahlo during the. winter months. The traffic on this road now is enormous, and a couple of wet days cuts it up in such a, way that makes a difference of two hours to .the load.

Where the nerves are concerned, good music is at once a stimulant and a sedative. A good piano provides the* best music for the home. Once you instal a Broadwood, a Ronisch, a Ljpp, ' or a Steixiway, you will come to reS»rd it, as,-« personal friend. • The rosden Piano Company, Ltd,, .has made a special study of the piano business. You have to face no desperate financing, If it is not convenient to pay. cash, you can buy on the easy instalment system. Local representatives, Messrs E. Griffiths and Co. 5
