MESSRS YOUNG, HOBI3S AND CO

Messrs Young, Hobbs and Co. in their weekly stock report state:-— On Monday, Ist, wo held our monthly Strathmorc sale. There was only a moderate yarding and bu.sine.ss was fairly slack. We quote — Forward cows t'2 17s to £3 2s 6d, store do. £2 S.s to 12 7s 6d, 18-nionths heifers £1 12s, yearling steers 80s, weaners ]3s 6d. At Stratford on 2nd inst. we held our Stratford supplementary sheep fair. Ten thousand sheep were" yarded, the majority of which were sold at satisfactory prices, although somewhat lower in value than at our opening fair. We quote — 2 and 4-tooth ews 11s 6d to 11s lid, 2-tooth ewes small 8s 7d to 10s lid, f.f.m. ewes 9s 3d, sound breeding ewes 7s, to 8s 3d, others 5s to 5s lOd, cull ewes Is 8d to 3s 6d. Q and 4-tooth wethers (good) 10s Id to 10s lOd, cull do. 7s lid to 8s 2d, rape lambs os 6d to 6s lid, culls and store do. 2s 8d to ss, Lincoln rams £1 Is to li guineas, aged do. 6s to 7s. At Stratford on 3rd,inst we held our fortnightly cattle sale and were f»\ oured wjth a good yarding of c;)ti!c of good quailty and condition. Bidding was well maintained at reduced valuer a large portion of the stock changui;; hands. We quote — Fat cows £3 IV, to £4 7s, forward do. £3 to £3 10s. store do. 425, 2£-year dairy heifers £2 17s, 15-month do. 30s, yearling empty heifers 235, 2-year steers £2 17s 6d, yearling do. 33s 6d, weaner steers 14s 6d, weaner heifers 6s to 9s, bulls £1 to £2 12s. At Kaponga on Friday sth we had a full yarding. Cattle were in good condition and sold readily at current prices. Fat cows made '£4 to £4 7s, forward do. £3 to £3 15s, storo do. £2 to £2 10s, bonejs 20s. to 30s, 2 to 21year dairy heifers £2 10s, 15-month do. 27s 6d to 28s, . 3-year steers £4 ss. weaner steers 11s to 19s, mixed do. 8s 6a to 10s, bulls 25s to £3, lambs 6s 4d. Quantity of timber sold in favour of purchasers.
