HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE.

WELLINGTON, Nov. 2. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner at London, under date October 31: — Frozen Meat—The mutton market is very dull, but New Zealand holders are firm, as stock is moderate. There is no change in prices to report. The lamb market is quiet, with less demand and no change in prices. The beef market is quiet but firm. Hindquarters are quoted at 3id, and forequarters at 3jd. j Butter—The market is very firm withj an increasing demand for better grades. Tho current quotation for New Zealand is 1265, Danish 131s, Russian 113s, Australian 1235, Argentine 1255. Cheese—The market is firm, with more inquiry for Canadian makes at 61s. Hemp—The market continues dull. There is poor local demand and no change in prices. Last week's output from Manila amounted to 29,000 bales. Cocksfoot Seed—The market is very dull, and to push sales lower prices would have to be accepted. Bright, clean 17-lb seed is quoted at 83s per cwt (nominal). Kauri Gum—The market is steady, with a moderate demand. Current quotations : Ordinary to fair three-quarter scraped 1655, fair half-scraped 100s, brown fair half to three-quarter scraped 187s 6d, brown pickings (common to good) 47s 6d, bush fair to good pale and amber scraped 1255. Hops—The market is quiet except for finest English, which are getting very scarce and are quoted at 70s per cwt. American hops are quoted at 45s per cwt.
