SETTLEMENT OF LANDS. s AN IMPORTANT AGREEMENT? Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 27. As the result of negotiations with the rival parties of Maoris represented- by tho prophet Rua and chief Kereru, tihe Hon. J. Carroll, Native Minister, lias succeeded, in promoting peace between., the rival factions. The pronouncement was made by a Rua chief that his followers would fall in with-the Government's ideas for the settlement of the vast lands of the Urewera country: This was received with ■ wild cheering by the other natives, during- which' Rua's party chanted the old war song, signifying that the dispute was ended.
