PUNIHO DISTRICT.

A special message received from Puniho this morning stated that the fires on th© Upper Puniho Road raged fiercely last itfght. A Btrotog wind spread the flames w,ith alarming ra^i* dity. The fires behind Mr .Vm Binnie's property were .considered, the most serious. The fire reached the stock-yard but then providentially, when .there, seemed little 'hope of. saving the out-buudings the windl dropped considerably, enabling the .flames to he staved off. Mr Binnie has an up-to^ date factory plant, including three ! milking machines, separator, oil eni gine, etc., and has been milking 120 roows. Had the fire not been, checked at that stage Mr* BinlnVfc ldss> would have been considerable. Fearing thai there would be little chance qf saving their homestead if the wind continued, the female members of several were removed to the township, taking with them what little furniture, and personal belongings that could be carried in their traps. - Mrs Fre3 Binnie, Mrs J. Lawn, Mrs White, ta»d Mbb \ Wells, »id:othe!r femfließ arrived at the township at 1 o'cock this morning and Were 4>ut vp 1 by Mrs Gibbons' atthp Puniho store and by Mr Clemance at the schoolhouse. This morning there was hardly a breeze at Pußiho and milking on the . places, that last night were in imminent danger, was done as usual.
