WOODVILLE RACffiK. SECOND DAY. Per Press Association. • WOODVILLE, December 5. The weather was again splendid for the second day of the Woodville Jockey Club's summer meeting. There were some ex- . citing finishes. ' The Summer Handicap . was a splendid race, and it was a big surprise when Moloch showed up at the finish. No bookmaker availed himself of the privilege of paying £20 for a license. WELLINGTON, December 5. A number of bookmakers interviewed the officials of the Wellington Racing Club with a view to coming to an understanding as to the terms on which bookmakers would be licensed by the club at its meetings. A number of suggestions were made, but no definite arrangement was arrived at. A compromise, it is understood/ is not improbable. In terms* of the 7 suggestion made by the Hon. Dr. Findlay to the deputation which waited on him on Monday, the following letter has been sent to the chairman of the Racing Conference on behalf of the bookmakers: — "Sir 4—l4 — I have the honour to inform you that a strong deputation of leading bookmakers, comprising representatives from thn . principal centres *and towns in- tfie Dominion, waited on the Minister for Internal Affairs this - morning, and, amongst other things, Dr. Findlay suggested that representatives of the racing authorities should meet the representatives of the bookmakers in conference, _wi#i a view to arriving at reasonable fees, and "also to 'discus's "rules for: the governing 'of bookmakers, etc. I shaE^thprjefore .be gla^d if you >jw*ll^use yourLgood offices and arrange for a %ieeting, and as the subject is of soflae ' urgency, I would respectfully! ask for a reply confirming this suggestion -af your earlitet convenience. — Yours faithfully, •M. WAITARA RACES. There was a rather small attendance at the annual meeting of the Waitara Racing Club, which was held at Sentry Hill yesterday. The attendance in the mor-ning was only about 300, but there was an increase later in the day. Glorious weather.prevajled. The course was in good order. The proceedings were enlivened by the music of the Inglewood Brass BaMd./ Pridr ±0 the day of the meeting the' club had advertised that bookmakers would bo admitted to a space .reserved solely for them if they paid a' fee 1 of £20. No fees were forthcoming, and a strict watch was therefore kept to 6ee that no betting was done, excepting totalisator betting. -Four policemen and a detective assisted the club in this direction. The "Vigilance Committe r e" was on the alert throughout the day and here and there found men whom they considered were betting. These men were promptly evicted. In this way half-a-dozen were got rid of. The fields were small in almost all the events. The public was dissatisfied, with, the riding in several event's! For his riding on Mikotahi in the Maiden, H. Gray was severely reprimanded. Following are the results : HURDLES, of 40sovs.; one mile and a-half. Mr G. N. Brown's br g Mooshen - <Fahey), 9.7 1

Mr W. Wood's br g Claremont (Cochrane), 10.12 2 Mr S. v McGuinness' eh g Mangamaeho (Scott), 9.0 3 Parkshot (Telford), 9.11, also started. The feature of this rase was the^fine jumping of the placed horses. Mooshen fenced superbly. , Gaining a couple of lengths at every obstacle Mooshen drew away from Claremont and was leading by several lengths passing the stand the first time. Just prior to the straight being entered for the run home Claremont moved up and was a neck in front when the last hurdle was negotiated. With his reputation for superiority over Mooshen on the flat the race was unanimously summed up "Claremont wins," but Fahey riding with excellent judgment landed the smaller horse a winner by a nose without the' use of the whip. Mangamaeho was a dozen lengths her hind 'and Parkshot as many chains away. Time, 2.54. MAIDEN, of 30sovs. ; about one mile. Mr S. Pitt's br g, Hydraulic (L. Denahay), 7.13 1 Mr D. Campbell's b f Miss Kit (Jackson) 8.9 2 Mr A. Rhodes' b g Mikotahi (Gray), 8.11 3 Amai (Fryer), 8.11, was the only other starter. Owing to a mishap with the bridle Amai was startled and disposed of her rider. After a deal of cantering about she was caught. A fair start was effected, though the field was troublesome^ . Right' in front of the stand Hydraulic in taking, the lead crossed Amai badly arid somewhat interfered with his running. .The- field was well together most of the. distance. A three-abreast finish all the way up the straight resulted in. victory 7 for Hydraulic by a long neck. Hycbaulic had led all the way. time,' 1.5U .. LEPPERTON STAKES, of 30sovs.j „. weight 8st t ; five, furlongs. Mr J. Barlbw's br m Pearlie (Barlow) 1 Mr W. Elliott's b m Lady Lancelot (H. Gray) 2 Mr R. H. Campbell's b g Burton (Jackson) 3 Also started: Dr. Shimose and Tarina. Dr. Shimose was left at the post. Lady Lancelot and Burton were in the lead for the greater part of the distance, but half-way up the straight Barlow let Pearlies head loose and the mare sprung to the front and gained victory by a length. . Time, 1.4. CUP, of 80sovs. ; about one mile and a-quarter. Mr H. Eva's br g Uhlando (Jackson), 9.4 1 Mr Rangi * Tuhata's b m Billow (Denahay), 7.10 , 2 Miss Dempster's b g Lantern (Scott) 7.2 ':...:.:..•::.'...:....* 3 Also started: Ney (Gray), 8.2; The Boyne (Pearce), 7.9; and J3tarfish (Gilbert), 6.7. Efforts to restrain The Boyne at the barrier were unavailing and the excited filly broke away and did | a preliminary bolt of three-quarters of a mile. Ney looked a likely winner when the race was half run, but dropped out at the .business end. It was a fine finish and won by half a length without the flail. Time, 2.13. CLIFTON STAGES, of 2550?5.; four furlongs; weight 9st. Mr J. Pipi's b* n^Bagatell© (Barlow) 1 Mr Aa Rhodes', b m Golden Eagle . . (G*ay) >„.. v „ 2 Mr L, Ge'oVgefs. cfc Tg "€k)M Bit(E. 'George) '. 3 Otaraoa (Pearce) and Royal Youngster (Denahay) also faced the barrier. Royal Youngster, was .left at. the post. Bagatelle got away well and had the race in hand from the start: Gray on Gold Bit. made a good effort .to get up and was within three-quarters of a length of the winner when the post was reached. Time, 51secs. WELT*ER, of 45sovs. ; seven furlongs. >fr W- G. Glassford's b m Trinket (Pearce), 9.81 1 Mr H. Comett's b h Red Star (Jackson), 8.13 2 Mr G: Blank's b,g Royal Star (Denahay), 9t4 \A 3 Black Banner (Gray), 8.7, was the only other starter. Trinket got the worst of the start by a couple of lengths, but quickly made up the lost ground. Black Banner and Royal Star led at the half distance by three lengths from the other pair. A furlong and a-half from home Trinket moved up and quickly took the' lead. A hard finish resulted in Trinket winning by less than a length. Time, 1.34. FLYING, of 50sovs. ; six furlongs. Mr S. Pitt's b c Fulminator (Gray), 8.4 1 Mr J. Barlow's b m Pearlie (R. Barlow), 9.0 2 Mr O. George's b m Somali (Jackson), 8.7 3 These were the only starters. The race was in doubt until the straight was reached. Then it was seen that Fulminator was holding the others safe. He won by a neck without the whip. Time, 1.17. SENTRY HILL STAKES, of 25sovs. ; four and a-half furlongs. Mr W. Barleyman's br m Tarina (Cochrane), 8.10 1 Mr J. Pipi's b m Bagatelle (R. Barlow), 9.7 (inc. Ist. pen.) 2 Mr L.
