CATTLE DRIVING.

PROSECUTION OF A MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT. By Electric Telegraph— Copyright LONDON. December* 5. The prosecution of Mr. J. P. Farrel! -M.P. for North Longford, is proceeding at Wicklow. In the course of the trial the Right Hon. R. Cherry, Attorney-> General for Ireland, who is prosecuting, described the cattle-driving indulged in as worse than anything done among the savages of West Africa. - [About the end of August Mr. Farrell and fifteen others were committed for trial at Longford for creating a riot and driving cattle in the Newton Forbes district and assaulting the police. Farroll objected to the jurisdiction of the Court, urging that the case should be taken at Newton Forbes. The present Court, he said, was a Court of Star Chamber. If time permitted, a writ of prohibition would be obtained from the High Court. Apparently he did not succeed in obtaining that writ.]
