The Morning Post, commenting on the Commonwealth wire-netting duties, says : — " The Commonwealth Parliament seems to bo endorsing the principle of preference in a striking manner. The increase of preference in this case has been from bne-sixth to one-half of the duty. It may make it impossible for the foreigner to compete for any length of time with the British manufacturer." , (The duty t proposed by the Government was 30 per cent.' on foreign manufactured wire-netting and 25 per cent, on. British. Parliament amended it to lCLp.er cent, for foreign and 5 per cent, for British.) : '■ "(deceived October 12, 9.42 a.m.) "" ' . , LONDON, October 11. Mr $fndrew "Bbnar Law, Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade, speaking at Newcastlo, commented) on the new Australian tariff. He said he believed that, despite the tariff, Australia would continue to be a great importer. Tho preference conceded was of real value to British trade.
