SHIPPING PROSECUTIONS.
Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, August 13.
At the Police Court to-day, the Invercargill Shipping Company was charged with failing to supply to the Superintendent of Mercantile Marine at Dunedin its agreement witli the crew of the steamship Rimu within twenty-one days after the completion of the said agreement. There were also three charges against tho master of tho Rimu, Johan Bergquish — (1) failing to cause the crew to be properly exorcised in boat drill ; (2) failing to enter in the official log the date of boat drill ; /and (3) failing to enter in the log tho draught of water and the extent of freeboard. For tho defence, it was explained that tho omissions, except regarding boat drill, were due to the vessel - being laid up. The action was brought as a warning 'to others. The Magistrate said under the circumstances he would fine the shipping company 20s and costs (£2 9s). The captain was fined on the first charge 60s and costs (£3 10s), and in the second case 20s and costs. (£2 9s).
