URUTI.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
. After a spell oi the mo^t severe f rpsts we have experienced this winter the weather has. atr last broken into a very mild rain — very spring-like indeod. Tbis change will be heartily welcomed, as feed is getting very scarce on most of the farms, and several of the dairymen are already at the beginning of their troubles. The last season's operations have been very satisfactory. One wellknown cow-farmer 1 states his not return per cow at £10 for milk alone, and there are quite a number close up. Most of these are Uruti Road farmers. After visiting some of tho farms and seeing the condition of the stock, these figures do not strike one as being high. Tho value of turnips is plainly demonstrated by inspecting the stock on the farms, side by side, with and without them. Practically tho dairying country on this road finishes at Messrs, Musker Bros.' farm, where the amount of grass showing easily beats any I saw elsewhere. From here on there are larger and more broken holdings with only a track; and at the extreme end of the settlement in the Tangitu valley is a very successful little dairy owned by Mr W. Dowds. Everything has tq be packed to and from the farm. ■■'' The Messrs Niccol are busy erecting a wool-shed and yards. Rumours are already afloat of a lively time at the opening in accordance with the rule throughout the district.
