TARANAKI WOOL, SKIN, HIDE AND TALLOW SALES.
MR. NEWTON KING'S REPORT.
On Tuesday,. 25th inst., I held my usual four-weekly sale. The catalogue was well maintained, and I am pleased to report that the consistent support of clients accorded to the pioneer sale of Taranaki continues to be satisfactory and gratifying. The catalogue comprised 920 hidcq, 1150 sheepskins, lpO calfskins, 19 bales,, 29 sacks wool, 17 casks of tallow, and the usual assortment of bones, cpwtails, horsehair, etc. s The fall in Australian markets wa3, as I anticipated, reflected here, and hides receded id to lb. Advices from London of the May wool sales have not been, satisfactory, and r consequently ] values wore easier. I quote: — j Wool — Fleece, 7d to Sd : crutchings, l sd to 6£d; lambs' 63d to 73d; dead, 7d to 8d; looks and pieces, 3jd td 4id. Shoepskins — Dry butchers', 7d to 8d; dp., inferior and xlamaged, 5d to 6£d per lb. ; part damp butchers', good, 6s to 11a; do., average, 4-sto 5s 6d ; do,, : farmers'. 2s Gd to 4* 6d; salted ■, butchers', 7s 7d to 6s sd ; small and ■ farmers', 3s to lOd. j Hidos— Moilium ox, scl to sgd. Cow (no really prime offered), medium 4^d to s£d, inferior 4d to 4£d, bull and stag , 3d to 4d. Horse hides, 8s 6d to 14s 6d ; ;
calfskins, sound 6d to 7d, cut and damaged 5d to s|d. Tallow— 23s to 24s 6d. Bones — £4 per tonHorse hair— ls 4d per lb. , My next sale will be on Tuesday, July 23rd, j.jO7.
