Republicans of. Pennsylvania endorsed Senator Knox as a candidate for ihe Prosidenev. Though Mr Taft (U.S Secretary for State) is better known and more widely popular than Mr Knox, the latter has an influential.following in New England, and is popular m the north-west. Both are considered suitable exponents of President Roosevelt's policies.
(According to Mr W. J. Bryan, who will no doubt be the Democratic candidate, the paramount issue of the next Presidential election will be that concerning trusts. ( "President Roosevelt had," he remarked recently, "recommended legislation on tho subject of campaign contributions by corporations, but the party had failed to respond, and he hoped the Democratic party would not only challenge the Republican, party to bring forth effective legislation on this subject, but set an example by refusing to receive campaign contributions. 3 ' That by the way. "In dealing with trusts there' need be no quarrel over remedies. The Democratic party must show itself willing to support any remedy that promises substantial advantage to the people in their warfare against monopoly.")
