POLICE COURT.
Mr Riddell, S.M., sat in tho Police^ Court this morning. ,-\ An old Maori, Parata Matini, admitted having been in the Taranaki Hotel , during tho currency of a prohibition. ! order. He pleaded a misapprehension. ! He had thought the currency of the; order had' expired. Mr Riddell, tak-; ing this plea into consideration, imposed a small fine— los, with 18s costs. Henry Dine admitted that he had," on February 28th, boarded the News Plymouth- Wanganui train at New Ply- : mouth while the train was moving. The', Magistrate, after remarking on the fre-^ quency of this offence throughout ther, colony, convicted Dine and fined him - 10s, with costs 11s. A young groom, Frederick Loveridge, who was recently in the employ of Dr. McCleland, was rined'&l (costs 6h), with 'the alternative of three days* imprisonment," for assaulting Charles Henry Holme. It appeared from 'the state-., ment 6f the police that defendant had got into conversation with Holme, the groom who had taken the position froinwhich defendant, was discharged. Somtf statement made by Holme annoyed him, and a severe assault followed. ;
