NAPIER, March 25. The Napier Borough Council to-night considered a report from Mr Jas: Black, A.M.1.C.E., who submitted the* probable cost of installing a system of electric lighting and traction, and the receipts "that might reasonably be expected. The most suitable route for a tramway was described as being from Hastings Street to Port Ahuriri, also to the Hospital and from Clew Square to the railway station, with a contingent service to Taradale. The approximate cost of construction was set down at £77,000 for traction lighting and power, and inclusive^ of^i^ie^ Taradale service, and £4^,000 of that service. Fqr a lighting scheme only the estimate ,was £12,4uQ> The estimated revenue in the sefcond year was £11,800, £7600 and £3300, respectively for tho three schemes, giving an ap7)roxjmate net profit of £1600, £730, and £600 respectively. At was resolved to apply for an Order-in-Counoil authorising the installation of 'etefetftc lighting and the construction of a tramway, to be run on the lines of Mr Black's report, and that the HawkeY Bay Council, Taradale Town Board, and the Whareomaraenui Reclamation Syndicate he informed what steps the Council are taking, sp that they also may take the necessary steps in case it is wished to extend the trams from the borough to Taradale.
