NEW PLYMOUTH WOOL, SKIN, HIDE AND TALLOW SALES.

NEWTON KING'S REPOET. On Tuesday, Bth inst., I held the opening sale of the year. The catalogue was satisfactory. It comprised 1779 sheepskins, 60 bales and 137 bags of wool, 850 hides, 3063 calfskins!, 21 casks, and' 22 tins tallow, and the usual quantities <o£ horsehair, cowtails, dry bodes, horns, etc. Sheepskins .were in good demand, j and realised increased Value,, one line of 29 woolly skins ' being sold at IV each. , Wool sold well, only six lots being passed in) and some of 'these were subsequently sold. Hides receded in value and calfskins j improved. I quote :— Hides per lb : Good medium ox 6d to 6§d', ditto cows 5f d to fid, settlers' from 4d to s*d. Calfskins : Grood sound! 6|d t«o ffid^ cut, damaged and slipey from 4d . up. Sheepskins : Butchers' part clamp, good 8s <>d to lls, medium 7s 63 to Ss Gd, salted 7s 5d to Bs> dry Bsd to B|3, 'dry lambs BJd, part 'damp lamibs |d %o 3s lOd, settlers' 4a 6d to 7s 6d. Wool : Fleece Bsd t a 9scl, dead *d td B^d>, locks 4d to 3d", lambs' 9d 93 to ©f d, pieces 4£d t75 5^3. Tallow in casks 22s 6d to 255, in tins 20s to 23s 9dj)er cwt, Korse hair Is 7d^ In order to promote these sales, awd to show off consignments to best advantage, I secured early in December the premises of th<3 Stratford Bacon Company, and I shall in future be in a position to more conveniently handle larger catalogues if necessary. I confidently anticipate that «all clients whose support has made the establishment of these sales successful will continue to uphold tibe pioneer sale o? the province.
