Mr Austin, the Victorian inventor, who submitted an invention to t/he War Office, informed interviewers that twice attempts were .made to saarch himself and his caibin aboard the Mongolia, but the efforts failed. He did not keep an appointment he ; niade to land at Marseilles, another man going in his stead, and he waa knocked on- the head and searched. , Germans and Japanese approached Austin in London, vaimly urgiughim •to disclose his secret, whereby he claims to be able to sight big gitos with absolute accuracy up to a range of twelve miles.
