Although the liabilities are fairly heavy there us no reason for alarm, as there is_ no doubt that during the present year the Club will be self -supporting. Matches with three , neighbouring Clubs— Eltham, Stratford and New.P lymouth—w ere held during last season, but as play did i not commence here until February, the ! members had little chance of success i ' against older 'and more experienced • j players ; but although beaten they j [ are not disgraced. Mr Smith, Lite • ' secretary, kindly offered £5 as prizes -for a tennis tournament, but tha imaijch among the beginners only was . 'completed, being won by Miss Annie - 1 Sole, who gets £1., The remaining £1 r has yet to be competed for. Much enthusiasm was shown by the players during the short season and many very agreeable hours were spent on the green. Owing to the necessary improvements required to be carried out, an invitation was given to the members to make use of the New Plymouth Green luring the remainder of the season. The Club laat season had 36 bowlers— 14 tunnis players, and 2 hon. members. During the coming season it is
