STRATFORD NEWS.

(From Our Resident Ageut.) May 22.— The people who sit in darkness in Stratford had an opportunity last night of enlightenment on tl«e anus of tho new Political Labour League. Mr 11. A. Campbell, a travelling delegate, expounded the gospel of the League to a sparse but no doubt intelligent} gathering at the Town Hall. The sort of mental indigestion ]\l r Campbell and his associates suffer from may be judged from the first bolus* he asked his hearers to swallow, to wit a State Bank with it-< notes a legial tender. It is strange how this old, old delusion of creating wealth -uith a printing machine survives. The State Bank comfortably ] settled, the audience, fit though few, I easily encompassed trifles such as tho j nationalisation of land and liquor, a white New Zealand (including it may be presumed the bleaching or deporItation of the Maori), compulsory preference to Unionists, an Elective Executive. The New Zealand coach has excitingjourneys before it, for never did man j sec such an ill-matched team as Trades' Union. Farmers' Union, Pub- i lican and Prohibitionist. Old Dick has his work cut out. Next Sunday there is to be a Church Parade in which tho Mounted Rifles, tho Riflo Volunteers, and ihe Fire Brigade Avill take part. Possibly tho Pipe Band will play them, in.
