Our Eltham correspondent writes :—: — Tho match on Thursday between 01'aia'Wci a/nd Eltham ended in. an easy win for ' Eltham by 16 points to nil. Prior to the commenceanent of play Okaiawa expected to have a ooinfortablo win, but their (hopes were disappointed, the red and blacks being outclassed, and were rarely dangerous. On Saturday the juniors put in a scratch team ag^ainst Ilawera. j and .-altered the usual penalty, the magpies being defeated .by 17 points to 3. At the close of the first spell Haw era were 3 points, Eltham 0. At the opening of the second .portion of th<* game 'Ilawera played vig-orously, and Eltham were defending, scores being registered against, the local team with monotonous regularity. The Hawon\ team wore a good; fifteen, and thoroughly deserved their win. They have so far been unbeaten, whilst the Kltham senioi-s and juniors have lost a f l t'hoir matches by large margins, and it looks as if the thirds will have to play the senior matches and tho latter take tip the third competition. Tho weakness of the seniors lies in tho back departiment, and until an improvement is mado Eltham stands a good chance of being a l on g way in the rear when the competition is coinpletocl. At TTawera on Saturday the. local seniors defeated a scratch Eltlumi ]3 by 12 points to 3. The 'Eltham team never anticipated a win, and tho surprise is that Haw era's score was not hiru-er, seeing khat -the visitors played five juniors. The following is the Star 1? team to Iplay Stratford on Thursday }— TTos;kiu. Sykes, Pmkson. Osborne, Hi]], Rvdcr, Bond, Butler, Brown, Maisey, Frothey, HopUns, Harvey, Scanlyu, i\lain.
