COMPLIMENTARY DENNER.
Tlic ' compiianeiitary dinner, f^ridered to the Premier arid party at ibe exhibition to-day , by the Exhibition Committee was a great success. There was an attendance of about 1 seventy people, chiefly invited guests.'.' Mr R. Cock (Mayor) presided over the. gathering, the Premier , and ;Mrs Seddon being on his. left and rlgl't respectively, and other moinbers of the party were distri'biutfltl rrjund the head of the table. The tables were tas>tef;illy decorated, and the. wai tresses were attired in fancy costume, adding to tin? gaiety of the occasion. An excellent menu was. prepared, and the arrang'oments were very CQinplcte, reflecting credit on the maimgeWKynt, which was in the hands of Mr C. Carter. ..Included in 'tiic. invited guests were the following a— Mr R. Cock and Mrs Cock. -Mr Hal. Go'odacre and O&rs Goodacro, Mr and Mrs DocWrill, Mr and 'Mrs 'E. M. Col. and Mrs Ellis, Lieut.-Coloncl and Mrs Okcy, Captain Malone, HV A. Leiinon, a number of pressmen, and others. At the conclusion of the lunch. "Mr Cocli proposed the . toast of "The King," and in doing so remarked that "We lived in an atmosphere 01 peace, for which we had to be very thankful. The toast was nonoured with accompaniments. The chairman further staled that tho Promacr would deliver an address in the Recreation Crouiid. Tlic Premier followed by proposing tho toast of the Mayor and president, Mr Cock. :He stated that ho had only had a glance as it wero at tho display, but he assured thorn that it was| a credit to the town of New Plymouth and the .district of Taranaki. He complimented both Messrs Cock and Goodacre on tho -work they had dono iv connection with the exhibition, and^ he associated Mr .Grwlacre's name with the toast, which was heartily honoured. In replying, Mr Cock traced the history of the movement, ?md described the amount of work entailed in connection with carrying out tlie exhibition. He gave to^jMr doodacre credit for having done the hardest work af anyone on tlie committee. Mr Cock returned 'thanks to ihe asscm-blao-e for the honour conferred on lum in so heartily, acknowledging; the toast. .Mr 'Goodacre also addressed a few words to the gathering.
