SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
A meeting of the school committee was held on Monday evening. Present : Messrs Newbery («:< airman), H. ' Spurdle, G. Pearce, L. Klenaer, H. I Vaughan, and E. White. j The Chairman stated that lhe flag 1- ■ staff at the school had olown down t during the gale, and mentioned tl.at •one of the stays had been broken some time ago, and that tiie caretak- ■ cr or someone responsible should have , attended to it. j Mr Peai'oe s a id he had oxamineel the flagstaff, and found that it was rotten and had the stays not Leen broken the pole would have come down scon!er or later. He had fI so inspected the ground and found that &pme posts were required and a new gate and hangings, and also a post for the small gate. The Chairman asked if it T ould not be better if the visiting committee had power to authorise certain wcrk when required, and attend to the nviuirementf at the school. It was resolved that the visiting committee be instructed in iuture to attend to all matters needing attention. ' ] Th© headmaster produced a statement showing the gross takings in j connection with the late concert to be £12 0s 6d, leaving a nett rroiit of , £8 ISs 4d. ' | The Chairman said the school pupils did their part of the concert exceedingly well and the staff deserves the thanks of the committee. A vote of thanks was accorded Miss Go'odard for her assistance ai the concert.
