At the banquet to Mr Seddon, the latter sprang a ( surprise after midnight by annou'ueing that Mr T. K. Mao Donald. a well known n.uctioneer and formerly a member of the Lower Ifouse. had been called to tho Legislative Council. Tho Promier said ho thought for once the (<ovemtmmt had kept as close as an oyster for ovon the reeoipient knew nothing about it.
Mr M'acDonalil. who was present, sain he was completely taken by surprise He hoped however the Premier would not think he should settle down into a political nonentity for he still hud some idea 5*5 * left and he believed in his ability to execute tihem.
