Mangaweka, May 24. — A young man named Sid Cole was t> day out with his brother shooting, when ho slipped and his gun went off, blowing tae fleshy part of the calf of one leg completely away. Assistance was procured aad the man brought home when removal was ordered to the hospital. It is feared he will not recover the use ef the leg. Christcharch, May 24.— The body of a young child, found in therirer yesterday, has been identified as the daughter ef George Longton, assistant engineer at the hospital. Christeaarch, May 25. -In the case of the drowning of a three-year old child found in the river yesterday, the mother, Mrs Longton, wife of the eaj ineer at the hospital, was committed to vhe lunatic as}lutn this morning, after having admitted pushing the child into the water, had previously been in an asylum. •\t the inquest to day the jury declined to accept evidence as to the woman's admission, and returned an open verdict. Auckland, May 26 — At Paerata, near Pukekohe, a young lady named Theo 1 onnell went to a neighbour's on Saturday for milk, taking a guv to shoot rabbits. Not returning a search -was made and she was found dead, shot through the heart. k
