RE FRIENDLY SOCIETIES PICNIC.
(To the Editor). Sir, — As a delegate I would like t.> say a few words. Now, at the fir.i v . meeting we had Mew Year's Day was picked on, but the Citizens' Picnic cropped up, so the matter of having it on that day was not settled. Tr-3 Mayor was asked -.f they were' goitiir to have one that day. He did hot know as they had not done any-. thing in the matter so- far r so a I the next meeting it was moved th«t» New Year's Day bo the day. It was seconded by the delegate of the Rccha bites Lodge, and when everything was fixed up, the Recha>ntt's condemned all the lot. I will not say any more on the matter as v letter from " New Year's Day " settled the lot, and I agree with him. I would like your opinion on the . matter.— l am, &c, DELEGATE. (To the Editor.) Sir, — Your correspondent " New Year's Day," in his letter on the above states half a truth only. Ho states in effect that the Rechabitc^. want to squash" •he Friendly Societies Picnic. The resolution pass-id and sent to the various societies reads as follows :—": — " That this Tent recommends its delegates on the I'itnic Committee to strongly urge the desirability of changing the proposod date for the picnic, so as not to clash with the Citizens' Picnic on New Year's Day." Strong bia-i may cause your correspondent t» distort facts, but he will be a clever man, if he can out of the above resolution say that the Rechabites sought to withdraw from the position they were prepared to accept as a- Friendly Society, should the Com*aittee have decided last Friday evening to still abide by their former resolution. — I am, &c, J. WHITAKER, Secretary, 1.0. R.
