The Wanganui Jockey Club contemplate altering the steeplechase course through the Recreation Ground by taking it close to the boundary near the cemetery, thus obviating the awkward angle across the football ground. On Wednesday evening a vtry pleasant and enjoyable function took place at Wbiteley Hall, when Mr and Mrs Collis, sen., were "farowelled" before leaving the district. The gathering was also in celebration of Mr and Mrs Collis' golden -wedding and the couple received many congratulations on the event. Among those present, were Rev. S. J. Herpell, who presided, Rev. W. Canneli, Messrs. J. Asher, Joseph White, S. B. White and others. During the evening Mr E. < 'key, in approximate terms, presented Mr Collis with a purse of sovereigns, subscribed by the congregation of the Wesleyan Church, aud the recipient feelingly responded, expressing his regret at leaving old friends in this district. Mr W. Bkinrier eulogised the good work of Mr Collis outside his own church, especially with i-egard to the Mutual Improvement Society which was for some lime in existence here. Songs and instrumental items were contributed during the evening, and a light supper was handed roun<J towards the close. There was great regret a>, r^ssed on every hand at Mr ami Mis Collis' departure, and they receive. 1 tho hearty good wishes of all for their future welfare.
