The Hawke's Bay men have done too much travelling in a short period, and as a consequence three of their men have gome home, leaving just fifteen to come on here. Bishop, their full-back, had such big knees this morning that it was doubtful if he could play this afternoon, and in the event of his dropping out Mr J. Fortune, the manager, had decided to fill the vacancy. It was hoped that the Hawke's Bay Union would have sent some extra backs over to play against Wanganui and Taranaki, but the Unionf ailed to second them.To give an idea of the travelling the team did it might be mentioned that they left Dunedin last Thursday morning, and were in Wanganni early on Saturday morning, playing Wanganui the same afternoon. The men will leave en route for home tomorrow morning. The Recreation Grounds Board have shown considerable enterprise in meeting the requirements of footballers on this occasion. The Board not only had the ground sanded and rolled for this match, but they made a concession in their share of the gates, agreeing to take a lump sum of £7, instead of the usual 25 per cent. The game was proceeding when the Herald went to press. Most of the business places were closed during the progress of the match. Owing to the scarcity of amber and black jerseys the Taranaki team donned black jerseys to-day.

The Hawke's Bay reps arrived from Wanganui by the express last night, and put up at the Hotel Commonwealth. A Taranakian, now located in Christchurch, writing to a friend here says : " I have seen a good deal of football since I have been here, and lam quite satisfied that there is no combination equal to that of ' Skinny ' Humphries and Allen. lam glad they were picked in the New Zealand -team."

At CShristehurch on Saturday Wanganni Collegiate School defeatedt!hrist'B College by 21 to 14. - 1 The Taranaki reps will start their tour «n Thursday morning. They play Wellington on Saturday, and the following week Wairarapa and Wanganui in order.
