At a meeting of the Presbytery, the Commission appointed to visit Hamilton to enquire into the charges against the Rev J. M. Mitchell, of having preached old sermons and neglecting ministerial visitations, presented their report, which states that Mr Mitehell preached perhaps a dozen old sermons during his ministry at Hamilton. With regard to neglect of jnnisterial visitations, there was no proof •f the charges. The Prjsbytery passed a resolution that it was gratified to find that the complaints were frivolous, and, not substantiated. Mr Mitchell then, tendered bis resignation of the Hamilton charge, which was accepted. THE CUSTOMS REVENUE. Wellington, April 3. The Customs revenne for the financial year will exceed the estimates by i 150.000. THE FEDERAL CONTINGENT. It has been arranged that the Continfent for the opening of the Federal 'arliament will embark at Lyttelton. MINISTERIAL MOVEMENTS. The Hon. Mr Dnncan left for Giibornti this morning. The Hon. Mr Hall-Jones returned last night, and will' leave for Nelson in a day or two. , MANAWATU RAILWAY COMPANY. Tho annual meeting of the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company was held at noon to-day. The Chairman stated that the earnings for the year were £96,270, and the general state of raveuue justified the proposal to pay a dividend of six per cent. The Premier's reply to the offer to sell the line, practically insisting on a lower offer, has been for* warded to the English shareholders. The report wa3 adopted, and a six per cent, dividend agreed to. Messrs Kirkcaldie and Plimmer were ra-e'ected directors. A comprehensive resolution by Mr Kennedy Mac Donald, protesting against the late negotiations, and laying down lha principle that the Company should work out its own destiny, irrespective of the Government, was withdrawn as tying the hands of the directors.
