The Cheviot Estsri \

A'J Cheviot the other d.iy the ITon. C. IT. Mi!N, in the course of a short address, compared Cheviot in the past with its present condition. In 1891 the population was 160. now it was 1300. In 1891 there were 2,600 acres of crop, now there were 11.110. In 1891 250 ar res of oats yielded 7.500 bushels ; iv 1859-1900 921 acres yielded 34,537 bushels of oats, 1,211 acreas of wheat 34,331 bushels, and 259 acres of barley 9,049 bushels. In 1891 there were 57 cows, now there were 661 dairy cows. Tn 1891 there was one owner of 82,000 sheep, in 1900 there were 124 owners of 89,"071 sheep. The capiral value of the estate in 1891 was L 303.184, in 1893 (latest valuation) it was L 392.694. The improvements then required amounted t0L46,590, but those actually effected amounted to L 63,274. There were now 69 miles of new roads, and improvements had been effected in 49 miles of roads, and 8 bridges had been constructed. The cost of roads and bridges had been L 45,158. The figures quoted showed a marvellous advance, which was due ia a great measure to the pluck and determination of those who had mado their homes on the Cheviot Estate. The Government recognised that the Cheviot was a pronounced success, and it was their intention to continue the same policy of settlement by acquiring suitable lands in other parts of the colony for close settlement. Up to the present time 89 estates of a total area of 374,837 acres had been acquired, at a cost of L 1,790,000. The Minister went on to Bpeak of the Advances to Settlers Department, which had been a great aid to many farmers who previously were struggling, but who, ' by its aid, had been rendered fairly independent. Advances had been made to 9815 settlers, and the amount was over L 3,000,000. The advantage of borrowing from the State had bee i made apparent. \TOH\PO HUg&OURS Rasties, and irriwtlons lmtantly rdlcTctl ana fnoedlly cured by hot bmba with CBTicußt f-'o-r, to cleanse the »kln. A WONDERFUL CURE OF DIARRHOEA. A prominent Virginia Editor had almost given up, but was brought back to Perfect Health by Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera, and Diarrhoea Remedy. HEAD niS EDITORIAL. From the Times, Hillstillo, Va. I suffered with diarrhoea for a long time and thought I was past being cured. 2 had spent much time and money and Buffered so much misery that I had almost decided to give up all hopes of recovery and await the result, but noticing the advertisement of Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera, and Diarrhoea Remedy and also some testimonials stating how some won-

derf ol cures had been wrought by this remedy, I decided to try it. After taking & few doses I was entirely well of that trouble, and I wish to say further to my readers .and fellow sufferers that I am a hale and hearty man to-day and feel as well as I ever did ia my life.— o. R. Moore. For sale by Co-operative Store, New Plymouth.
