The Federal Elections.
♦ THE NOMINATION United Press Association.— By Electric Teletmipb.--Copyrlsrht. Received March 15, 1.6 a.m. Sydney, March 14. — Nominations closed today for the Federal Senate. Fifty were received, including Labour and Socialist branches. The most prominent nomineen, who range through the social gamut from a tram-guard, are Mr B. E. O'Connor, Mr A. J. Gould (ex-Minister of Justice), Colonel Mackay (commanding the Bushmen in South Africa), and Mr John Norton (editor of Truth). Melbourne, March 14. — Nominations made for both Houses number twentyfour for the Federal Senate, including Sir W. A. Zeal, Sir F. Sargood, and Sir J. G. Duffy, Mr W. A. Watt (ex-Poat-master General), Messrs J. L. Dow, J. L. Purves, Robert Reid, and Simon Fraser. Over sixty were nominated for the House, including Sir John Quick, Bendigo ; Mr A. McLean, ex-Premier of Gippsland; Mr S. Maugher, Secretary of the Protect : pnist Association. Those returned unopposed include Sir George Turner, Messrs Deakin, Isaacs, Carty, Salmon (ex-Minister), and Sir Malcolm McEachearn.
