INGLEWOOD NEWS.

| FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. | I have hitherto abstained from giving an account how the Inglewood Rifles shaped when at drill. On the 17th inst. the company fell in in front of the Drill Hall and were marched to Trimble Park where the men were put through several movements in company drill by Lieut. Leech. I was more than suprised to see how well they performed their drill considering the short time since the corps was accepted by the Government. To properly execute <*ompany drill which is similar to battalion drill, it requires twe guides and two marks. There was only one officer and one sergeant present, the second Lieutenant being on leave and Captain Nops is not yet gazetted. The men were served out with the Snider Enfield, on Wednesday evening. I saw a few of the rifles and they seem to be quite new. I would like to see some of the men ftand up a little better than they do, bat this will be reotitied by and by. I would recommend that the men be put through position drill as laid down in the musketry exercise before they go to fire at the target, as when firing standing it is necessary for each man to brace himself will up and no stooping in the back, and knees be kept straight. The men are a smart looking lot of young fellows, and it is not hard to make good soldiers of the Taranaki boys.
