Mr King said' without going into th* merits of the' matter he tho,uaht the better plan would, b. 9 to )eaVe we^question to be dealt w^th by the new Board. Mr M^l«ean was of; the same opinion. He said when he was elected to the Board it was his painful doty to 4nove that the salary be reduced. -While he thought that £300 a year was a good salary— many of the county clerks had to work for much less—'-he^ was n6t averse to an increase r qf , £25. At th« same time he considered it would be unfair to vote an increase just as th« Board was going out of office. Hfi also added a tribute to the excellent and capable manner in. whiph Mr . Rennell did the work connected with the office of Secretary. Mr Ward explained that his reason in. bringing the question, forward a,V that meeting was oecause Some ojf the members had been associated with Mr Ren nell for six ye£r« c* more and were able to judge the work done by that offioer. Ultimately it was agreed to defer the motion until the new Board is elected.
