[FROM Oi.' K KEttIDENT AGENT] January 17.-- Mr G. A. Marchant is the County Council's rep. on the Egmont National Park Board, t think I have already reported that the Borough is represented by Mr E. Burgess. Arraugements for extending the telephone service to Whangamomona have been made, and the work of erecting the line will be taken iv hand at once.
Local bodies about here are scratching their heads over the sums charged by the Valuation Department for alteration and revision of the rolls. The Borough has paid with n wry face about £40 for a year's work, and the County Council lias characterised the charge made in its case as exorbitant, and has held over payment pending au explanation. O*t|r Chamber of Commerce met on Tuesday night. Among other business, the perennial question of the Ohura Road metalling came up. The Government was strongly urged to at any rate give the Whangamomona settlers access to their dairy^ factory before winter. This was looked upon as of even more importance than the further extension of the metalling from this end. A resolution was darned thanking the Government for endeavouring to establish a regular line of steamers to South Africa. Several local matters in connection with the railway and post office were discussed,
